Off-season weddings are a great opportunity to introduce your personal stylistic twist to what can be a cookie-cutter event. The hardest part about being unique is that no one can tell you how to do it! In the wintertime, a bride and groom could choose a common winter theme and turn it into something elegant and romantic. For this post, we will be adapting the Winter Wonderland aesthetic to fit what could be your perfect wedding day!
To begin, let's think about the parts of the Winter Wonderland aesthetic that stand out the most. For some, a Winter Wonderland is all about sleigh rides, snowball fights, and building snowmen. To others, the characteristics of sipping a warm cup of cider or hot chocolate by a fire are the most salient. What is most important is picking out the aspects of a Winter Wonderland theme that speak the most to you to.
Next, think about how you would describe your spouse-to-be and your relationship with them. Are they playful and jovial? Are they creative? Do they give the best cuddles with cocoa in hand? Whatever it is, you want your wedding to be an expression of what makes your relationship go round.
If the playful aesthetic suits you the most, consider using a white, silver, and light blue color palette that will represent the snowy blanket of a Winter Wonderland. Adding fun accents like fake snowflakes or icicles would bring in little details that will go a long way. If you want to emphasize the fun that is to be had in a winter Wonderland, you could have large cotton balls to have "snowball fights" with. (say it's for the kids when it's for the groomsmen once the party gets going).
Conversely, maybe the thing you love most about your spouse-to-be is their warm and comforting presence, and maybe you want your special day to reflect the warmth of your relationship. In addition to the white, silver, and light blue tones, consider adding accents of gold and champagne to bring an element of elegance and warmth to your celebration. Another way that you can bring some unique flair to the day is by adding a hot cocoa or cider bar. While you don't need to completely forgo the adult beverages, this cocoa bar will bring back sentimental memories and feelings of a time when all the joy in the world could be found in a cup of cocoa.
There is more to the feel of a wedding than just the decor; elements like food and attire present the best opportunity for guests to engage in the setting with all of their senses. The menu for the evening could consist of warm soups and roasted meats which bring warm comforts as we seek refuge from the cold. Consider a long-sleeved bridal gown and incorporate a garment like a shawl that can be worn during the ceremony but can be taken off if the bride gets too warm. The groom could consider a velvet or wool suit with deep green accents echoing the hues of evergreen trees.
At Camp Hosea, we want to be a part of making your special day magical. We enjoy helping couples express their love for one another and demonstrate that to the world in their own unique way. To find out more about us and our venue, please contact us, we would love to hear from you!
